The World Health Organisation has given some advice on helping children cope with the emotional stress during the current COVID-19 outbreak. As children may respond to stress in a different way to adults, it is important to support them, listen to their concerns and give them extra reassurance, love and attention during these difficult times.

It is important to try and keep children close to their parents and family, and if separation does occur, to ensure regular contact is made via phone or by messages. Keeping to regular routines and schedules as much as possible is recommended, as well as making opportunities for the child to play and relax.

The World Health Organisation recommends providing children with the facts about Coronavirus, including what has happened, and what could happen. Also giving them clear information about how they can reduce their risk of being infected.
